When June 25th becomes 26th, or October 4th becomes 5th, it doesn’t seem to mean anything. But when December 31st becomes January 1st, it feels as if some great change is going to happen. We try to get rid of all bad habits such as sleeping late, smoking, over spending and drinking, and get accustomed to the good habits such as exercising, no drinking, no smoking, dieting, studying English and so on. It is that time of the year when you plan all the things you want to do, and put aside all those you don’t want to do. You imagine a ‘better me’ instead of the current me, and dream of a better place.
Along with the bright and promising energy of the New Year, COMO presents 《With Light Steps》this January. Ryu Ho Yeol is an artist who uses computers to make realistically impossible moments real, and who dreams of creating a world of new visions. The vibrant light steps of the characters that appear in <one day=""></one>, presented in the outer screens of SKT-tower, will make you want to march energetically along with them. In Ryu Ho Yeol’s works, characters are not the only things that are full of life. The image of a city packed with skyscrapers soaring up and down makes you feel the vitality of the city. Meanwhile the tree, a living organism like humans, is simplified in form, and the color is moderately presented in silver. Vitality is blown into the stern city, and order is blown into the nature. Through the process of discovering opposite elements and transforming them, the typically perceived world can be observed in a different perspective. As artist Ryu Ho Yeol has created a new world by exerting different orders into the visible environment, let’s try to look at this world of myself, neighbors and us in a different way, and let’s try to make a better me, and therefore a better world.
With light steps, one, two three!

Reality and unreality are the underlying themes in my work. Using a medium called computer to make impossible situations or phenomenons real (or unrealization), and to make a world of new visions, my objective is placed on the true meaning of “de-conceptualization”, rather than the substantial meaning of “realization of the unreal”.

Many impossible things in reality can be possible within the computer. But all of that is just creativity that occurs when you begin to “think” “beyond” the “existent”.

In particular, I intend to show the “encounter between digital and analog” in the methodical aspects of my work proposals. Many video works are being presented in various ways, but here I intend to engage and show the difference between ‘movements’ of videos and ‘3-dimensions’ and ‘objectivity’ of sculptures. With the participation of visitors in creating the work together, appreciating the work, or as part of the work itself, I attempt to harmonize the artist, the work, the space, and the visitors.

The coordination of the unrealistic space within the 2-dimensional screen and 3-dimensional sculpture, the unrealization based on reality, or the realization(existence) of the unreal, the balance between digital and analog methods in methodical aspects, the coexistence of the work, visitors, and exhibition space; through all these elements the artist requests us to break away from every day life.
