Memory, Draw

Art Center Nabi is honored to present Lev Manovich's inaugural solo exhibition in Korea, titled Memory, Draw. In an age where the distinctions between human ingenuity and technological advancements are increasingly intermingled, this exhibition delves into the pivotal role of generative artificial intelligence within the artistic domain, highlighting the expansive possibilities that emerge from the collaboration between human creativity and technological innovation.

This exhibition, featuring the works of Lev Manovich, a distinguished scholar and media theory researcher, probes various questions at the heart of the latest breakthroughs in generative AI. Through his artworks, Manovich, works on paper from his extensive research, endeavors to explore and respond to these inquiries.

Each segment of the exhibition is dedicated to examining different facets of generative AI, posing critical questions and seeking to unravel the mysteries of this novel artistic medium. The displayed works encourage the audience to participate in a reflective dialogue, contemplating the emerging paradigm of art creation in the era of generative AI.

Memory, Draw not only exhibits contemporary AI-enabled artworks but also offers a reinterpretation of Manovich's works on paper from 1978 to 1985. This contrast aims to highlight the dichotomy between art created with cutting-edge technology and art that embodies traditional human creativity. The exhibition presents an array of evolved images, illustrating the process of image prompting, visual data analysis, and systematic experimentation with AI parameters. This culminates in a carefully curated selection of images, reflecting the evolution over time.

The exhibition is a testament to the harmonious blend of human emotion and mechanical precision in AI-assisted art, showcasing the burgeoning possibilities in the confluence of art and technology. It is the hope that Memory, Draw will inspire visitors to envision the future trajectory of art, navigating the converging realms of art and technology.
