The term "Generate 생성(生成)" refers to the emergence of something new, whether it be an object or a quality that did not exist before. "Generation 세대(世代)" refers to people born in the same era who share common ways of thinking and perception. 

Generation that Generates is an exhibition featuring women media artists who are active in the same era, exploring current available technologies to bring forth new qualities in media works while sharing common modes of thinking, approaches, and sensibilities. This exhibition showcases individual artistic languages of the artists, revealing not only the continuous repetition of computational methods, data inference of generative AI, and material transformations through artists but also the creative nature of the artists in their worldview, including life forms and new environments resulting from generation. 

Generation is born with rules in automated structures, created at the boundaries of generation, inference, and transformation. In such a generated world, new objects can evolve, mutate, and connect according to rules. This generated world leads to proliferation, omission, and experiential derivation. 

Generation that Generates interprets the individual approaches of artists to generation as follows: 

The action of generation showcases our methods of creation, including visual arts created through algorithms, realistic fictions completed with generative AI based on factual data, and elements in the real environment that undergo formal transformations through artists. 

The world of generation presents a transcendent world that aims for the reconstruction of reality rather than mere modification and shows a world of adapted and transformed mutants in response to real changes. It discusses predictions about community and networking, the power of self-preservation of objects to survive in the future. 

Such generative actions and worlds vividly bring forth thoughts and environments that did not exist or were not noticeable, imagining the expanding inclusiveness of our current IP extension industry through self-proliferation, proof of reality at the boundary of fact and prediction, and expectations for inclusiveness through multiple worlds and experiences.

Generation is a beginning, a process, and an extension. 

미디어 소녀 (meaning "Media Girl") is a community of women media artists that started with the aim of raising the social voices of underrepresented groups regarding the recurring disparities in technology-centered media environments. In 2023, 미디어 소녀 begins its first exhibition at Art Center Nabi. 미디어 소녀 (@mediasonyo) advocates for an open community that is not confined to specific regions, nations, or people, and while it initially started with “women” as the socially defined starting point, it aims to gradually create a community needed by all beings facing social disparities. Technology may not be for “everyone,” but can't actions be possible? :)
